After I got back into town Christmas evening, I had a bad cold and some stomach problems. It took me almost a week to get over most of that. This is the first day since my cold really got to me that I have been up all day. I am hoping my cold is finally over even though I know I still have a lot of lung congestion. I just hope that eventually will go away. This is to praying that 2014 is better than 2013!
Happy New Year! God Bless You All!
"Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." (Romans 10:9-10)

Home, Sweet,Home
I made it home, got a good night's sleep, and a hot shower. Now, just trying to get over this cold. I need to run out and take care of some errands and get some bills paid. Oh, so, great to be back to the regular grind. I will need to logon into work sometime to see what is going on. Maybe tomorrow morning if I get all my errands done today.

Retirement - First 1/2 Day
Today was my last day of work for the year. I actually got off work at 11:30 a.m. and had the rest of the day off. I am really excited about this next phase of my life. No looking back. Now, I am going to take a few days off to rest and relax. Linda text-ed me and asked if I want to go out for supper and celebrate my "retirement". We decided to go out to lunch instead because the weather was getting kind of bad. It was cool and snowy. So, we went out to Tucker's for lunch. I enjoyed that. We stopped by the bank on the way to get a little money for our trip.
Tomorrow morning is my Men's Group and then tomorrow evening I will be volunteering for the Desert Theater. After that, my schedule is pretty free until I head out to Beirut to see the Bentley's. Shadow will be in good hands with our the dog sitter we have arranged to take care of her while we are away. I just need to pay a couple bills and make sure I have some money in my checking account in case I need some funds while traveling.
I will be checking my company mail on December 26th to see if I am going to be asked back to do cross training in January. Tonight, I will just relax some. I have not gotten to read the paper yet or see the evening news (two staples of my life)! Then, I will probably relax and maybe watch the "Sound Of Music" which we recorded last night.
God Bless Us Everyone!!!! :-0

New Mexico Chili Cook-off (Warning: PG-13 Materia)
If you can read this whole story without
laughing, then there's no hope for you. This
is an actual account as relayed to paramedics at a chili cook-off in New
Mexico.
Note: Please take time
to read this slowly. If you pay
attention to the first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even
better.
For those of you who
have lived in New Mexico, you know how true this is. They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the
time Halloween comes around. It takes up
a major portion of a parking lot at the Santa Fe Plaza . Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chile taster
named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield , IL.
Frank: "Recently, I
was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last
moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table, asking for
directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (Native
New Mexicans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy; and, besides, they
told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted and became
Judge #3."
Here are the scorecard
notes from the event:
CHILI # 1 - MIKE'S
MANIAC MONSTER CHILI
Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing
kick.
Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
Judge # 3 (Frank) -- Holy crap, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your
driveway. Took me two beers to put the
flames out. I hope that's the worst one.
These New Mexicans are crazy.
CHILI # 2 - EL RANCHO'S
AFTERBURNER CHILI
Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno
tang.
Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to
be taken seriously.
Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to taste
besides pain. I had to wave off two
people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw
the look on my face.
CHILI # 3 - ALFREDO'S
FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI
Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick.
Judge # 2 -- A bit salty, good use of peppers.
Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano.
Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my
backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting sh*t-faced from all of the beer.
CHILI # 4 - BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC
Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice.
Disappointing.
Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side
dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.
Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue,
but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer maid, was standing behind me
with fresh refills. This 300 lb. Woman is starting to look HOT ... Just like
this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?
CHILI # 5 - LISA'S LEGAL
LIP REMOVER
Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Jalapeno peppers
freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more
tomato. Must admit the jalapeno peppers make a strong statement.
Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my
forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me needed
paramedics. The contestant seemed
offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring
beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm burning my lips off. It really ticks me off that the other judges
asked me to stop screaming. Screw them.
CHILI # 6 - VARGA'S VERY
VEGETARIAN VARIETY
Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good
balance of spices and peppers.
Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers,
onions, garlic. Superb.
Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled
with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I crapped
on myself when I farted, and I'm worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me
except that Sally. Can't feel my lips
anymore. I need to wipe my butt with a snow cone.
CHILI # 7 - SUSAN'S
SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI
Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on
canned peppers.
Judge # 2 -- Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally
threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I
am worried about Judge #3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is
cursing uncontrollably.
Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull
the pin, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world
sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid
unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are
full of lava to match my shirt. At least
during the autopsy, they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing. It's too painful. Screw it; I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the
4-inch hole in my stomach.
CHILI # 8 - BIG TOM'S
TOENAIL CURLING CHILI
Judge # 1 -- The perfect ending, this is a nice blend
chili. Not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
Judge # 2 -- This final entry is a good, balanced chili.
Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3
farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself.
Not sure if he's going to make it. Poor fella, wonder how he'd have reacted to
really hot chili?
Judge # 3 -- No report.
THE WORLD IS MINE
Today, upon a bus, I saw a very beautiful woman
And
wished I were as beautiful.
When
suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw
her hobble down the aisle.
She
had one leg and wore a crutch.
But as she passed, she passed a smile.
Oh,
God, forgive me when I whine.
I
have two legs; the world is mine.
I
stopped to buy some candy.
The
lad who sold it had such charm.
I talked
with him, he seemed so glad.
If I
were late, it'd do no harm.
And
as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you, you've been so kind.
It's
nice to talk with folks like you.
You
see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh,
God, forgive me when I whine.
I
have two eyes; the world is mine.
Later
while walking down the street,
I saw a child I
knew.
He
stood and watched the others
play,
but he did not know what to do.
I
stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join them dear?"
He
looked ahead without a word.
I
forgot, he couldn't hear.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I
have two ears; the world is mine.
With
feet to take me where I'd go..
With
eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With
ears to hear what I'd know.
Oh, God,
forgive me when I whine.
I've
been blessed indeed, the world is mine.
Give
the gift of love. It never comes back empty!
Always keep people in your life
that charge your battery,
Not
those who will drain it.

Colonoscopy - Written by Dave Barry
So here's the story.
I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis.
Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough, reassuring and patient manner. I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn't really hear anything he said, because my brain was shrieking, quote, 'HE'S GOING TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!'
I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a prescription for a product called 'MoviPrep,' which comes in a box large enough to hold a microwave oven. I will discuss MoviPrep in detail later; for now suffice it to say that we must never allow it to fall into the hands of America's enemies.
I spent the next several days productively sitting around being nervous. Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my preparation. In accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any solid food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically water, only with less flavor. Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep.
You mix two packets of powder together in a one-liter plastic jug, then you fill it with lukewarm water. (For those unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32 gallons.) Then you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because MoviPrep tastes - and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon.
The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a great sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose, watery bowel movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you jump off your roof, you may experience contact with the ground.
MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don't want to be too graphic, here, but: Have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch? This is pretty much the MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times when you wish the commode had a seat belt. You spend several hours pretty much confined to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate everything. And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food that you have not even eaten yet.
After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next morning my wife drove me to the clinic.. I was very nervous. Not only was I worried about the procedure, but I had been experiencing occasional return bouts of MoviPrep spurtage. I was thinking, 'What if I spurt on Andy?' How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough.
At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood and totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said. Then they led me to a room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little curtained space and took off my clothe s and put on one of those hospital garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that, when you put it on, makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually naked.
Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left hand. Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I was already lying down. Eddie also told me that some people put vodka in their MoviPrep.. At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of this is, but then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire Hose Mode. You would have no choice but to burn your house.
When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure room, where Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I did not see the 17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around there somewhere. I was seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me roll over on my left side, and the anesthesiologist began hooking something up to the needle in my hand.. There was music playing in the room, and I realized that the song was 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA. I remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that could be playing during this particular procedure, 'Dancing Queen' had to be the least appropriate.
'You want me to turn it up?' said Andy, from somewhere behind me. 'Ha ha,' I said. And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading for more than a decade. If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because I am going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like.
I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, ABBA was yelling 'Dancing Queen, feel the beat of the tambourine,' and the next moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood. Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I felt excellent. I felt even more excellent when Andy told me that it was all over, and that my colon had passed with flying colors. I have never been prouder of an internal organ.

Colonoscopies are no joke, but these comments during the exam were quite humorous..... 2. 'Find Amelia Earhart yet?'
3. 'Can you hear me NOW?'

Inspirational Stories
She jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room She said: 'How is my little boy? Is he going to be all right? When can I see him?' The surgeon said, 'I'm sorry. We did all we could, but your boy didn't make it.'
Sally said, 'Why do little children get cancer? Doesn't God care any more? Where were you, God, when my son needed you?'
The surgeon asked, 'Would you like some time alone with your son? One of the nurses will be out in a few minutes, before he's transported to the university.'
Sally asked the nurse to stay with her while she said good bye to son She ran her fingers lovingly through his thick red curly hair. 'Would you like a lock of his hair?' the nurse asked. Sally nodded yes. The nurse cut a lock of the boy's hair, put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Sally.
The mother said, 'It was Jimmy's idea to donate his body to the University for Study. He said it might help somebody else. 'I said no at first, but Jimmy said, 'Mom, I won't be using it after I die. Maybe it will help some other little boy spend one more day with his Mom.' She went on, 'My Jimmy had a heart of gold.. Always thinking of someone else. Always wanting to help others if he could.'
Sally walked out of Children's Mercy Hospital for the last time, after spending most of the last six months there. She put the bag with Jimmy's belongings on the seat beside her in the car.
The drive home was difficult. It was even harder to enter the empty house. She carried Jimmy's belongings, and the plastic bag with the lock of his hair to her son's room.
She started placing the model cars and other personal things back in his room exactly where he had always kept them. She lay down across his bed and, hugging his pillow, cried herself to sleep.
It was around midnight when Sally awoke. Lying beside her on the bed was a folded letter. The letter said :
'Dear Mom,
I know you're going to miss me; but don't think that I will ever forget you, or stop loving you, just 'cause I'm not around to say 'I Love You' . I will always love you, Mom, even more with each day. Someday we will see each other again. Until then, if you want to adopt a little boy so you won't be so lonely, that's okay with me. He can have my room and old stuff to play with. But, if you decide to get a girl instead, she probably wouldn't like the same things us boys do. You'll have to buy her dolls and stuff girls like, you know. Don't be sad thinking about me. This really is a neat place. Grandma and Grandpa met me as soon as I got here and showed me around some, but it will take a long time to see everything. The angels are so cool I love to watch them fly. And, you know what? Jesus doesn't look like any of His pictures. Yet, when I saw Him, I knew it was Him. Jesus, Himself, took me to see GOD! And guess what, Mom? I got to sit on God's knee and talk to Him, like I was somebody important. That's when I told Him that I wanted to write you a letter, to tell you good bye and everything. But I already knew that wasn't allowed. Well, you know what Mom? God handed me some paper and His own personal pen to write you this letter I think Gabriel is the name of the angel who is going to drop this letter off to you.. God said for me to give you the answer to one of the questions you asked: where was He when I needed Him?' 'God said He was in the same place with me, as when His son Jesus was on the cross. He was right there, as He always is with all His children.
Oh, by the way, Mom, no one else can see what I've written except you. To everyone else this is just a blank piece of paper. Isn't that cool? I have to give God His pen back now He needs it to write some more names in the Book of Life. Tonight I get to sit at the table with Jesus for supper. I'm sure the food will be great.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. I don't hurt anymore the cancer is all gone.. I'm glad because I couldn't stand that pain anymore and God couldn't stand to see me hurt so much, either. That's when He sent The Angel of Mercy to come get me. The Angel said I was a Special Delivery! How about that?
Signed with Love from God, Jesus & Me.
